Get out in the sun
Sunshine is essential for optimizing your vitamin D levels, and seniors with low levels of vitamin D are more than TWICE as likely to be cognitively impaired as their peers with optimal levels. People who are cognitively impaired are more likely to develop dementia and possibly even Alzheimer’s disease, so make sure your vitamin D levels are in the healthy range.
Exercise
Exercise is a brilliant form of stress relief while at the same time conditions the body and mind. Get yourself into a regular routine of some exercise that you enjoy, and don’t make excuses. If you have trouble motivating yourself try joining a local gym and get the instructors to work out a program that is suitable for you. Exercise is an essential part of being healthy and most importantly gives you time for yourself so make the most of it! To me walking has so many benefits, even if it means just walking 30 minutes each day.
Yoga
Yoga is an excellent form of exercise for stress management. It is discipline that focuses on the body’s muscles, posture, breathing mechanisms, and consciousness. The ultimate goal is to attain physical and mental well-being through mastery of the body and meditation.
Kundalini Yoga to Detox and Destress
Kundalini is among the easiest yoga styles to learn. One of London’s most in-demand yoga teachers, Maya Fiennes blends movement, breath, mantra, and chants (all set to her own exhilarating music) in Kundalini sequences designed to detoxify and strengthen kidneys and adrenals-the body’s first line of defense against stress-induced illness. You’ll feel more awake and aware, healthier, and better able to face everyday challenges. Exclusive bonus CD includes more of Maya’s music. “To feel her spirit, her energy, and her teaching is an extraordinary experience”—Deepak Chopra, M.D. Approx. 60 min. on 1 DVD.
Meditation
Meditation uses a wide variety of techniques to clear the mind of stressful outside interferences. This state of consciousness allows you to eliminate any external mental stimulus so your mind can focus on creating a state of relaxation and relief from stress.
Get enough sleep.
Sleep is essential for brain function and also assists your brain in flagging unrelated ideas and memories, forging connections that increase your creativity.
